• POW/MIA Monument Re-dedication Ceremony
• Sunday, September 20, 2009 4:00 PM.
• Verdugo Hills Hospital, 1808 Verdugo Blvd., street level parking lot.
The POW monument honoring Sgt. David Demmon, US Army, MIA, 1965 and all POW/MIAs was originally place in 1973, by the Girl Scouts. The growth of the Freedom Tree, which the monument had been placed with, had over time grown and broken up the monument.

Life Scout Adam Fletcher
It has been restored and will be rededicated this Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 4:00 PM located at the entrance to Verdugo Hills Hospital parking lot. The restoration was an Eagle Scout Leadership Project, completed by Life Scout Adam Fletcher. Adam’s project relocated the monument with a new pedestal, added a walk way, plants, and restored the bronze plaque. The finished project will be submitted to the Verdugo Hills Council, BSA for the review board to give their final approval.
Sgt. David Demmon is the brother of long time Crescenta Valley resident Carole Deutsch.
The project was sponsored by VFW Post 1614 and American Legion Verdugo Hills Post 288. Adam was able to obtain help from the following businesses and scout family members and volunteers:
• Michael Cormier and his sons Mason and Wesley built the pedestal
• La Crescenta Nursery recommended and supplied the plants
• Mike Westhoff, Los Angeles Fire Dept.- Station 4 supplied the sprinkler system
• Kimberly Nida – Registered Nurse, and former Director of Emergency Services cleaned and polished the plaque.
• Troop 288 participated and worked in excess of 110 hrs.
